VEENMEESTERS

Inspired by works by the old masters with a Drenthe theme from the year 1800. Vincent van Gogh’s ‘Twee vrouwen in het Veen’ & ‘Onkruid verbrandende Boer’ and Willem Roelofs’s ‘Hunebed van Tynaarlo’ served as inspiration for this concept. Characteristic because people were portrayed/painted ‘sober and still’. Ascetic and rustic, coarse brush strokes, tranquil, characteristic Drenthe landscapes and the free interpretation of the masters… inspiration for the photographer to delve into these image-catchers of old. By placing these works of the old masters in the contemporary zeitgeist with current issues, innocence, awakening and authenticity creating images with a new context and aesthetics. Where the characteristics and values of these works and the masters are respected and honored.
